Cathy Kennedy-Reyes

Representing True Washoe Values!

Cathy Kennedy-Reyes is a fighter for her two children and she’ll be one for yours. After 21 years of service as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer, she and her spouse, also with a long history in law enforcement, made the brave choice to hang up their gun belts and retire to become full-time parents to their two children.

Cathy moved to Sparks in 2006 and has one child in the district and one graduate. As a former K-9 handler, she earned the title “Cathy K-9” and just like the dogs she worked with, she’ll be a force to be reckoned with for your children.

With so much never-before-seen divisiveness, Cathy knows that we must do better. She recognizes that drastic changes are desperately needed to improve curriculum, and that we must refocus our efforts on traditional education and true Washoe values.

Cathy supports a rigorous education centered around the Three “R’s” (reading, ‘riting,’ ‘rithmatic’), and is a fierce supporter of equality of opportunity for all races, genders, religions, orientations, ages, and positions in life. As such, Cathy opposes the proposed divisive, so-called “Social Justice” curriculum, as well as Critical Race Theory, and opposes the current district policy of biological males, identifying as female, participating in girls’ sports.

While we were sleeping, we saw our school district deviate from education to political advocacy, and none of it represents our True Washoe Values. Discipline, accountability, meritocracy, and transparency have disappeared in schools.

Under Ellen Minetto’s watch we saw a trans-gender policy allowing males in female locker rooms, sports, and scholarships. Minetto voted (January 2019) to spend five million taxpayer dollars on politically divisive “Social Justice” books. Minetto voted for the Anti-Police Racism Resolution (October 2020) and then supported the Superintendent’s January politically-based robo-call to parents and children. She supported the past Superintendent before finally voting to fire her and voted to hire the current Superintendent who was not recommended by the selection committee. A dysfunctional board tied up in divisiveness, failure, inertia, lawsuits, and a “circle the wagons” approach. Minetto twice voted to make citizen complaints confidential to the maximum degree possible. Minetto’s many bad votes are perhaps overshadowed by her inaction and failure to represent her district and the citizens of the Sparks area. Watch any past or present meeting of our current Board of Trustees and you’ll see first hand the need for change.

Whether it is Minetto or a backroom picked “yes person,” just say no. Say yes to a higher Quality of Education, say yes to Reyes in 2022.
