District F School Board Candidate
I am running for the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees because I oppose the politicization of the education of our children. Our children deserve a first-class education, free from the contemporary “reforms” that are being pushed around the country and which do not
help prepare our children for the future.

I am running for the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees, District F (At Large).
WCSD is lacking effective leadership and direction. It is incapable of addressing and resolving simple matters in a rational manner – resulting in Board proceedings turning into a circus, creating a mass of dissatisfied parents and driving them to other educational choices – such as private, charter, and homeschooling. This trend is deeply disturbing and evidences district mismanagement, never mind the long-standing lackluster student performances that this board and countless before it have been unable to rectify.
My goal is to help right the ship by bringing the focus back to issues which will improve education and student performance – starting with focusing on the basics.
I oppose the politicization of the education of our children. Our children deserve a first-class education, free from the contemporary “reforms” that are being pushed around the country and which do not help prepare our children for the future.
The role of WCSD should be singular – to provide a first-class education to all students. It is not to advocate for political causes. It is not to reinvigorate racism. It is not to indoctrinate students.
I am the father of two sons in elementary school and a daughter who will follow in their footsteps soon. As such, I have a direct and personal stake in what goes on in the district. I am a lawyer born, raised and educated in Scotland, first coming to the United States in 1988. I have lived in Reno for the last 20 years and have owned and operated my own law firm since 2015.
If elected to the board, I will bring the following traits which have become increasingly rare on the board: common sense, practicality and frugality – and the perspective of an immigrant.
*District F is one of two “At-Large” districts covering generally eastern and northern Washoe County, from Virginia Foothills and Damonte Ranch to Sparks and North Valleys (excluding Lemon Valley, Stead & Cold Springs) to the Oregon border. It comprises 36 elementary schools, 9 middle schools and 9 high schools.
